Logline

What is a Logline?

A logline is a one or two sentence description of a screenplay that both informs and intrigues. It is an informative tease that conveys genre, summarizes the story, and hooks a reader’s interest. It’s the attention getter. It’s the unique answer you give to when someone asks “What is your screenplay about?” and gives readers a split-second summary of the idea of what they are about to read.

Loglines are important because they are the first chance you have to hook a reader or producer into wanting to read your screenplay. Producers have to weed through mountains of screenplays, and a good logline will help your screenplay stand out from the crowd. In Open Screenplay, a great logline will attract users to contribute to your idea.
