TORONTO, Jan 20, 2021 – Open Screenplay is delighted to announce that its award-winning short film, The Poem, has been picked up for worldwide distribution by Discover.film, and is now available to view on over 100 Million handsets, and on the entertainment systems of some of the world’s top airlines.
The Poem is based on the winning screenplay from the Mental Health screenwriting contest hosted in partnership with Layla, a mental health service that facilitates access to therapy. The contest, which was held back in 2019, encouraged writers to use the immense power of storytelling to tackle the challenges of speaking openly about mental health, and in the words of Layla founder and CEO, Samer Abughannam: “replace stigma with empowerment, isolation with community, and systemic shortcomings with collective demands for change”.
